Mate tea is produced from the leaves of a South American plant, the holly plant liex paraguariensis, which contains the stimulants caffeine and theobromine.
It has been consumed by the native people, such as the Guarani and Tupi peoples in Paraguay for centuries and now is consumed throughout South America.
It is seen as an alternative to green and black tea and is used in weight loss and as a stimulant.
As well as working as a stimulant Mate tea also contains 15 amino acids, 24 vitamins and antioxidants which can help the bodies immune system as well as strengthening the body.

To prepare Mate tea -
1. Boil the water and allow to cool for 3-4 minutes to room temperature
2. Pour it on the tea leaves and allow it to infuse for 2-3 minutes
add honey or milk if the tea tastes bitter to you
